You name multiple fonts. The browser checks the first one; if the viewer does not have it, it will move on to the next one. If that doesn't work, it will check the next one, etc.
it's a process of elimination, it takes the first one you plug in, if the person doesn't have that one in their font bank, then it choses the second one, if that one fails, then it'll take the third, etc. until it finds one that they have...
