First of all, serifs are the little "tails" on letters. So, sans-serif means that there are no tails, like this font. the Serif font means there are serifs, like the font used in the commenting box.
The "tails" that you see on some fonts are called serifs... sometimes you will see a "sans" in front of the "serifs" which means "without" thus they are without "tails" Gracie
